My mini mansion project

My name is michael and I’ve been working on my miniature mansion for a few years now.   I’ve always loved architecture, interior design and anything in miniature so I decided to build miniature 1:12 scale (one inch equals one foot ) model houses as a hobby .   I build my first one from a kit to see how things went and to learn as much as I could on building in miniature.  This mansion is to house my vast miniature collection I’ve collected over the past few years.  I designed it myself and made all the plans over the past few years and have been building it since July 2017  and I’m almost done.  it’s a big house  with 18 rooms, the first floor contains the library/billiard room, the Egyptian smoking room, the art gallery, reception hall, drawing room, dining room, music room and the ballroom.  The second floor contains the gentlemen’s bedroom, study and bath.  The central hall, the ladies bedroom, boudoir and bathroom.   The third floor contains the guests bedroom, sitting room and bathroom, the top hall, the theater room and nursery.  I made sure it had lots of space for my collection.  I built it in 7 sections  out of double ply foam core. I have 6 almost done they still need chandeliers and curtains and maybe a few odds and ends or touch ups. I’m now working on the last one now that will house the staircases and entrance door.   The house is dated to the guilded age and represents rooms and decorations that large mansions of the time contained.  I studied many guilded mansions in books and online and used them to create a miniature version of a home the Vanderbilt’s or Asters may have owned.

  1. Hello Michael,
It is lovely to meet you! I am so happy you started a blog to chronicle your amazing work. I spent most of last evening going through your posts and I just love your project. I have books on the gilded age mansions and I think you recreated the look and feel of the era to perfection. As I looked through your pictures I kept remembering the Newport mansions I visited. Keep up the amazing work. I always love getting to know talented miniaturists.
    Big hug,
    Giac
